Al Groh is really not worthy of a Godfather reference, but this is funny regardless:
UVA's Al Groh Is Icy, Son

Nepotism in college football may still be a problem, but not at UVA.
Facing staff evaluation after a 104th ranked offense limped into the offseason, Al Groh decided to fire his offensive coordinator for poor performance. Is this a big deal? Of course, as your offensive coordinator in college is heavily involved in convincing certain players to come to your school in addition to their responsibilities getting the team to score points. Firing offensive staff is always a big deal, and if you doubt this, ask the suddenly very available Tommy Tuberville about the matter.
Is this a BIG deal? Double yes, when the guy you're firing is your very own son. Mike Groh, son of Al Groh, is being fired by his dad from the University of Virginia after dismal results as the play-caller for the Cavaliers. I can only imagine that the whole thing happened Fredo-style, with Groh looking quietly out on the lake while his henchmen took Mike out in the canoe to "have a little talk."
If you doubt that Al Groh is gangsta, well, you know now. He's icy and you better have his money, or it's dirt nap time for you -- even if you happen to be flesh and blood.

It will never happen, but I hope Craig is doing everything he can to gauge Tommy Tuberville's interest in re-locating to C-ville.
From Jeff White's blog:
CHARLOTTESVILLE – If you’ve spent any time today reading message boards devoted to U.Va. athletics – those on TheSabre.com and CavsCorner.com in particular – you’re probably convinced that the Al Groh era is over.
And maybe Groh has, indeed, coached his last game at Virginia. But I’ve been digging and calling and digging all day, and none of the many people I’ve spoken to – at least those whom I consider to be reliable sources – believes a final decision has been made on Groh, whose eighth season as Virginia’s football coach ended last weekend with a 17-14 loss to Virginia Tech.
I have learned, however, that U.Va.’s board of visitors has told athletic-department officials that they may borrow money from the school to pay for Groh’s buyout if they decide a change is required.
Under the terms of Groh’s contract, U.Va. would owe him about $6 million if it fired him before next season.
In an e-mail exchange with me Nov. 9 – the day after U.Va.’s loss at Wake Forest—athletic director Craig Littlepage was unequivocal when I asked him about the 2009 football season.
“Al Groh will be our head coach,“ Littlepage said, even if U.Va. lost its final two regular-season games and finished with a losing record.
Which, of course, is what happened. And now, Littlepage’s comments notwithstanding, many people close to the football program no longer seem convinced that Groh will return for a ninth season as coach at his alma mater.
About 28 hours after U.Va. lost in Blacksburg to finish 5-7 for the second time in three years. Littlepage announced Sunday night that Groh’s contract would not be extended through Dec. 31, 2012. Littlepage also said in his statement that he’d be meeting with Groh “in the next 48 hours to conduct a year-review of the football program.“
One of the issues to be discussed was offensive coordinator Mike Groh’s future on his father’s staff. How those meetings have gone, I can’t say for sure, but various Internet reports suggest the two parties remain far apart. Littlepage e-mailed me tonight to decline comment, and Al Groh didn’t respond to an e-mail I sent him seeking comment.

The college football talking heads were sweating Tim Tebow's toughness because he got covered in mud when he scored against FSU on Saturday. I didn't hear any of them giving props to the FSU tuba section...

For those of you who waste Monday mornings staring at the NFL standings trying to figure out what has to happen for your team to make the playoffs, all the scenarios are finally available on the NBC Sports site. Not sure why this was not always available, but I, for one, am relieved to know there is a place to watch the Redskins playoff hopes become increasingly bleek on one easy to use site.

These are a few highlights from this week's edition of "The Homers." Follow the link to enjoy the dellusions in their entirety:
Homer #1: E-Dubs
Go ahead and draft up the Deed for the University of South Carolina because Clemson OWNS them.
Homer #3: Benz
Is it conceivable that the ACC is better than the SEC? Is it possible that an offense "that'll never work in the Big Six" ran through the preason No. 1?
Homer #8: 46 East
You mean to tell me that a QB with the national, all-time 5th highest high school total in career offense can play QB pretty well at the college level too??? No way I say.

Craig Littlepage announced yesterday that UVa will not extend Al Groh's contract. While this is not quite the announcement I would prefer, I can honestly say I am relieved. Afterall, would any Hoos fan have been shocked to find out Craig added another year to Al's deal? UVa football is a joke.
I guess when you lose to VT seven of eight times, you are worth keeping around...at least until your buy-out drops a couple mill.

I know what its like to be surrounded by Tech fans, but the yard flags and car decals that terrorize my neighborhood are nothing compared to this hideous display.
Unfortunately, I doubt the Cavs will do much to ruin Jennifer's spirit on Saturday, but her house will continue to be absolutely atrocious.
ACC Picks
Georgia Tech (+7.5) over GEORGIAFlorida (-16.5) over FSU
BC (-6.5) over Maryland
NC ST (+1.5) over Miami
South Carolina (PICK) over CLEMSON
VT (-8) over Virginia

Homer #1: E-Dubs
The weather was not the only thing cold in Charlotesville. The offense being displayed could of put to sleep a school bus of 8 year olds jacked up on mountain dew and fun dip.
Homer #2: Moncrieffe
We have been on a 4-year slide against UF and it's time that Urb learned what a good ol' fashioned FSU stomping feels like. Their offense is not as advertised and their defense is not that good at all.
Homer #5: Krystal
Watching Miami is like flirting with a really hot chick, then finding out she's only 16. You see the potential, and get all the anticipation, but there's nothing you can do but wait 2 years.
