Sweets for Your Sweetheart

Got a sweetie with a sweet tooth?  Pick them up something special this Valentine’s Day.

We’ve got you covered with a few sweet ideas.

We visited local sweet shops like For the Love of Chocolate and Two Sweet to find out their best bets for Valentines’ Day.  We found heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, hand-picked truffles and even cupcake-and-flower combinations that will make your sweetie swoon.

But you don’t have to break the bank to impress your honey.  We also found several extra special items that you can pick up at your local market like Ukrop’s and even a few goodies from drugstroes like CVS that will have you spending $5 or less.

V-Day Standouts to Mention:

Heart-Shaped Box of Chocolates
A heart-shaped box of chocolates will put a smile on any girl (or guy’s) face.  For the Love of Chocolate has several heart boxes to choose from: like Lake Champlain’s beautiful box of assorted truffles and chocolates ($35) or try the Boca Bons, a favorite among locals, which pairs truffle, fudge and brownie rolled into one ($14.99).

Super “Sweet” Cupcakes
Two Sweet cupcake boutique is offering two Valentine’s Day specials that are very special indeed.  Pick up four themed Valentine’s Day cupcakes like Strawberries ‘n’ Cream and Salted Caramel in a heart-shaped box ($12.50).  Or the cupcake-and-roses combination that features your choice of Valentine’s Day cupcake with a bud vase of four red roses in a very special package ($24.95).  (Note: there is something addictive in these little goodies!  I sampled one on the last photo shoot and now I can’t stop thinking about it.) Check out our slideshow on Two Sweet if you want more.

“Healthy” Chocolate & Truffles
Who knew?  “Healthy” chocolates are packed with flax seeds and omega 3’s.  The New Tree dark chocolate with chili pepper comes highly recommended for $5.99.  Or discover a truffle-wonderland starting at $.59 each or a box for $12.99.  Both at For the Love of Chocolate.

For Your Salty Sweetheart
Not every girl has a serious sweet tooth.  If she likes salty more than sweet, pick her up some fancy nuts for the Valentine’s Day.  My personal favorites can be found at Trader Joe’s.  Pick up a big bag of Tamarind roasted almonds or salted cashews for $4.69-4.99.

Keep It Simple
You don’t have to go overboard for Valentine’s Day.  It really is the thought that counts.  If you’re running short on time, pick up Valentine’s Day cookies or cakes at your local supermarket.  Or stock up on Valentine’s Day hard candy at your local drug store (the hard candies definitely pack a lower caloric count than all that chocolate).  There are plenty of goodies to be found from fifty cents to five bucks.

Seriously, Colleen. I’m going to have to spend even more time on my treadmill. I gained three more pounds just watching this slideshow. Everything looks great!
